What
01We are surrounded by voices: vocal, visual, inner.
Society, relatives, gouvernement, partners, bosses - everyone has expectations, views and takes on us.
How to define your own voice in this noise?
My take on it
02I want to show the pressure, the frustration, fear and pain of searching, defining and being yourself.
I do not want to be too literal or dramatic.
I want to play on visual metaphors, emotional hooks and parallels.
I want people to watch the movie and:
- Stop feeling lonely or strange.
- Ask themselves the First question on the way of finding their own voice and not the borrowed one.
- See the true face of “morals”, “norms”, “traditions” or anything abstract that society feeds us in the pursuit of “normalising” everyone
- Find energy to fight
Why?
03The idea came to me just like that during my solo trip in Venice.
I think it has a deep connection to my inner fight with abstract definitions as “normal”, “good”, “bad”, “traditional”.
My biggest growth has started whe on one of the sessions with my psychologist I started to cry over her response to me “It is okay to be different”. That was the moment when I realised that I was silently suffering from invisible fight with reality. When I realised for the first time how painful and tiring is to be “Me”.
I realised that despite the fact that I knew: I did not want the life I see being sold by the society - I always walked in blindly, trying to find The life I will be comfortable in. It was a silent, invisible fight, but it was there.
Since then it did not become easier to be myself, but it did become easier to live it and verbalise it.
So I guess I want to share it. I also think that the world will be a better place with people following their personal voice.
At least we will have more critical thinking instead of the army of depressed clones.
Script
04Our hero is not visible for us in the beginning.
We start in a total black frame, just the voice appears first and starts to describe “us”(the hero), the surroundings etc.
As the voices describes - little by little things, features, colours start to appear.
The Voice is the one who defines everything
Every situation, every new day has the new voice.
We never, or almost never move smoothly from one location/situation/day to another. We always start by the black frame or we jump into a new followed description of the Voices.
The Voices are:
Everything but not you.
Jasper
There is however always another hero in the frame. Almost not visible (just maybe a part of the body or a shadow) in the beginning. This voiceless hero will start to appear more and more with the development of the story. It’s our main hero’s personality(Voice)
This hero will first remind us a strange silent stalker as it will always follow our main hero. Than it will little by little start to talk: very quiet at first and shy but more and more confident and present with the story development. (i will call this hero Jasper)
The voices are changing and the “Design” of the world around changes too.
As if we would change the lens, an angle, filter, style but also colours and look of everything and everyone. Not only the psychological portraits of people around us, but the look of casual things (like a tree or chair).
I want this to look as some kind of a “trip” - not a magic world, but a confusing, never stable image that sometimes makes you uncomfortable but also pushes you to rediscover things.
It should be a illustration/metaphor of a specific moment of prejudice/personality/emotion/state.
The Creature
As more we “live” as more we start to see our Hero going from a complete POV when we barely see hands to the mix of POV and a side-view (the view of Jasper).
The life continues and our Hero starts to be more and more “Frankenstein”-alike: Every voice is in fact the voice that we follow giving up our own voice. Sometimes we are forced to follow it because it suggests a “simple” answer. Sometimes because of our insecurities, sometimes because we are not taught to express ourselves etc.
Anyway it makes us a traitor to ourself. A kind of an alien or a clone of someone else. A uniform of a society voice ( Maybe some people around us would really look like clones or almost?).
So every time we follow the voice - we borrow a part of that voice and it results in a visual patchwork on a human.
Until it becomes a monstrous creature
By this time Jasper becomes more powerful and claims his voice.
The Creature stands in front of Jasper (we see the Creature by the eyes of Jasper) :
Multiple Voices talk at the same time creating disturbing sound that becomes more and more loud (like a hive of bees or flies) we see that face & body features of the Creature changing hyperfast. This sound and image making us feel insane and want to run.
Jasper screams. Voices screaming too. Until it becomes just an “AAAAA!” shout.
Jasper stretches unnaturally and (quite cruelly - Korean style) eats the Creature. Voices shut down.
Jasper срыгивает (возможно)
Cut.
We are in thick fog. Almost nothing is visible. Total silence.
The voice of Jasper starts echoing somewhere. We follow.
Echoes of other voices start to appear but we focus on Jasper’s we try to silent them.
Closer we get to Jasper’s voice - More visible the world become. Sunrise is starting.
We (the Creature) are on the edge of the forest. In front of Japser - just stepped in.
The Voices are still buzzing nervously but quiet.
The end
(Very fast editing:
Child’s portrait changes to a teenager - young adult- adult
It is in fact the real hero that was hidden all this time and the inner child.) не уверена я в этой части
The Hero puts his forehead on the forehead of Japer and looks him in the eyes
(like loved ones do)
